Gitanjali Narayanan, PhD, is an NIH-Fogarty post doctoral researcher working under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas Oltmanns. She is also pursuing a Master’s program in Epidemiology and Prevention Research. Her dissertation explored the relationship between self-construals and personality dimensions, both adaptive and maladaptive, and their links with family-of-origin and cultural values. It highlighted several culture specific aspects of personality disorders in the Indian setting (PhD: National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore, India, 2008). She is currently examining the interactions among substance use and personality psychopathology in older adults. Of special interest is the incorporation of self and informant reports of personality while studying alcohol abuse and dependence using a longitudinal design.
